Few things offer more visceral proof for the power of focused kinetic energy than a karate chop. A black belt’s hands can move at greater than 100 miles per hour and deliver a strike with well over 500 pounds of focused force. More than enough to shatter bone when properly delivered.
But that’s nothing compared to another example of guided muscle.

Back to guided muscle. Force equals mass times acceleration. In other words, you can increase the impact of something by changing how fast it is accelerating. Speed matters. In this case, it is the speed of OBEDIENCE.
Today’s verse says LET THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDE YOUR LIVES.
Yesterday we spoke about keeping in step with the Spirit. Today we’re going to look at how our obedience impacts the Kingdom as we do.
As we follow God, He leads us into the very situations He has created for us to walk in.
God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows how He created our personalities. He knows our thought process. He knows what motivates us and what causes us fear. He knows the precise limits of our capacity. Not only that, but every believer in Jesus is sealed with His Holy Spirit, and to each one the Spirit has given gifts for the common good that will come to light as we walk in obedience.
“Come to light” is a key concept here. Think of how light reveals things. You walk into a dark room and can hardly see anything. But then you flip a switch, and the contents of the room come to light. Plainly seen. They were all there before the light was switched on, but they were essentially invisible.
As you and I walk in obedience to God, the things He has placed inside of us – spiritual gifts, skills, abilities – these things are brought to light in new ways; ways we’d never have considered without His guidance. Jesus is the Light of the World, and He lights up His work in us so that we can be used by Him to advance His Kingdom and impact the lives of people walking in darkness. As we move in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit, we become His tools. Guided muscle, if you will; guided and empowered by Christ’s Holy Spirit.
We receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, a kinetic power to impact our world as we live out our witness. When we obey His leading, He uses us to change the world around us. Like a well-aimed and perfectly executed karate chop, we shatter the strongholds the enemy has built up to hold people in bondage. He deliver His gifts, His healing, His wisdom, His power – guided each step of the way into the very things we were created to do.
The Holy Spirit teaches you all things, whatever you need to know to follow Him and serve Him well. He brings to your remembrance all that you have learned as He was teaching you. He activates the gifts He gave you so that you can do things IN HIM you could never accomplish on your own. And all of this happens as you and I LET THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDE OUR LIVES.
Focused kinetic energy. Very powerful. Dynamic. We are the tools God uses to impact the world around us. Guided muscle.
