It’s a scene repeated in in many forms and various stories, plays and movies. The hero steps forward and confidently announces to the huddled masses facing some grave danger, “Don’t worry – I’ve got this!”

Well, as I said, once the hero jumps into the game, the action kicks off in earnest. In make-believe stories, the hero always wins. Calm and self-reliant regardless of how desperate the battle or situation appears, the hero emerges victorious. Curtain. Applause. Next crisis.
But real life demands REAL heroes to face real challenges. And I only know of one.
Today’s verse says THANKS BE TO GOD! HE GIVES US VICTORY THROUGH CHRIST.
If you have access to the internet and do a search on the phrase “I’ve got this” you’ll discover some hilarious images. Cats dangling precariously by one paw. Toddlers on one knee next to an alligator. Even a young boy dressed in an overly large cowboy hat, shirt and boots facing a large water buffalo; except he’s forgotten his pants and trousers. Each of these images has some variant of the phrase, “Don’t Worry – I’ve Got This!” But, quite obviously, they do not.
When we try to be our own hero, we’re often like that young boy. We stand facing an opponent whose size and skill unquestionably outmatch us, but we’re so oblivious that not only do we not realize the incredible danger we are in — we don’t even know we’ve forgotten our pants!
I prefer a hero with unlimited capacity, total wisdom and understanding and absolute control. I’ll take a hero who can turn water into wine or open blind eyes with mud and spit. Give me a hero who never came across a funeral He didn’t stop with a resurrection — including His own. I’ll trust Him.
My hero can feed thousands with a small snack. He can produce cash from the mouth of a fish. He can heal with a touch and calm a storm with a word. He’s my hero.
You’ll not find me saying, “I’ve got this” because I do not. Ever! I’ve learned that I never have what it takes in myself. Without Him I can do NOTHING.
You’ll not find me saying, “I’ve got this.” I say I’VE GOT HIM !!!
Thanks be to God!!! HE gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
He’s my hero.
