There are lots of places in this world that are very, very dark. You know about some of them, and I do too. The biblical solution may shock you.

You may have heard somewhere that Jesus is the light of the world. That used to be true, but not any more.
What Jesus actually said was – and I’m quoting here – “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Guess what? He left! It was actually quite some time ago.
But “He left” doesn’t quite tell the whole story. A fuller truth would be this … He left YOU and ME. You see, before He left earth, Jesus told the ones who had committed to follow Him, “YOU are the light of the world.” Candles and torches are wonderful things, they can give a great amount of light. But if the candle is going to be taken away, it’s best to light some other candles before it is removed. Jesus knew that; and so He ignited us, those who are willing to be followers of Jesus.
If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
People ask about things that make them wonder, they ask about things they do not understand. When their curiosity can’t be quenched, they ask!
What do the people around you see in your life that makes you stand out from folks who have no relationship with Jesus? What’s different about you? What’s different about the way you treat people?
Is there ANYTHING about how your living your life that would compel people to say, “Where does that power come from?” or “Why do you do that?”
Perhaps one of the most well-known examples of the type of life that demands these sorts of questions is Mother Theresa. Day after day on the streets of Calcutta she lived her love out and touched the lived of those around her. Someone once asked Mother Theresa, “What can I do to make the biggest possible impact in my generation?” Her answer was as simple as it was sage. She replied, “Find a dark place and be a light there.”
Where do you see darkness around you? What are the things that bother your heart? No one can do everything, or impact every situation; however dark that issue may be. But everyone can do SOMETHING. Perhaps God is focusing your attention on some particular area of darkness because He intends you to shine your light there.
“Find a dark place and be a light there.”
YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. When you enter a place of darkness and let your light shine before men, they will see it. And as they do, it will burn brightly in the darkness of their world. The light of your love will compel questions. Be ready to answer them.
Jesus is the reason for the hope we have. People in the darkness NEED Jesus, and you can be the one who introduces them. Be ready. When you let your light shine in the darkness, they will see. And as they see, then they will watch. And having watched, your love will demand an explanation; so they will ask.
All that is needed is the proper place of darkness.
